Major WWE Star Wants Match With Steve Austin

A top WWE star has attempted to get Steve Austin out of retirement.

The story of CM Punk and Steve Austin is one of near misses. The pair famously went nose-to-nose back in 2011 during a sit-down interview with Jim Ross to promote the video game WWE ’13 but a match never came together.

Meanwhile, with Punk back in WWE in November 2023, it was reported a match with Steve Austin had been discussed within the company, but again the speculation went nowhere. Austin later said that if he did decide to get back in the ring, a match with Punk would be a good option.

During an appearance on The Masked Man Show during Fanatics Fest NYC, Punk was asked about a potential match with Austin, this time at WrestleMania 41.

“That would be up to Steve. It’s not up to me. I think he had a pretty good return. Came back, main evented WrestleMania. At this point, his six shooters might be buried in the Nevada desert. If he wants to dig them up, I’m your huckleberry. It should’ve happened ten-plus years ago, but if he wants to go to sleep, he can call me,”

Steve Austin Teases WrestleMania 41

In a recent interview, Steve Austin teased that he could be involved at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. The veteran noted that he doesn’t like leaving Nevada much these days, before quickly pointing out that the event will take place in his home state.

Speaking elsewhere, Steve Austin admitted he came close to appearing at WrestleMania 40 after holding talks with WWE, but a deal never came together.
