Major WWE Star Took Massive Pay Cut To Join The Company
Sami Zayn was the name on everyone’s lips in WWE at the beginning of 2022 but the popular star has revealed that he took a big financial gamble to join the company.
Sami Zayn propelled himself to the top of the wrestling world through his work with Roman Reigns and The Bloodline in a storyline that had been heralded as one of the best in years in the company.
Zayn couldn’t dethrone Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber but he was part of the first-ever WWE Tag Team Championship WrestleMania main event as he and Kevin Owens defeated The Usos for the gold at WrestleMania 39.
But things weren’t always so good for Zayn in the company. Speaking on Whiskey Ginger, the star explained that when he joined the company back in 2013, he took a huge pay cut:
“When I signed for WWE, I actually took a pay cut because it’s like, okay, you’re signing for WWE, it’s like the opportunity to make money, right? I think my last year on the independent [circuit], I’m throwing all these numbers out willy-nilly, but whatever. (…) So, I think my last year on the independent, I made somewhere around $100,000 and I signed my first WWE contract for $39,000.”
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were drafted to Raw as part of the recent draft and they will team up with Matt Riddle to take on The Bloodline trio of The Usos and Solo Sikoa at Backlash.
