Major WWE Star Could Be Competing At Their Last WrestleMania
Drew McIntyre will take to the ring on Sunday night to challenge for the Intercontinental Championship but a new report has noted that unless things drastically change, it could be McIntyre’s last WrestleMania.
McIntyre was released from his first run in WWE back in June 2014 having never quite lived up to his early potential in the company as Vince McMahon’s “chosen one.”
The Scottish star returned in 2017 as part of the NXT brand where he captured the NXT Championship on his way back to WWE’s main roster. Drew McIntyre broke through into the main event scene at the 2020 Royal Rumble when he won the men’s Rumble match guaranteeing himself a title shot at WrestleMania.
McIntyre defeated Brock Lesnar for the WWE Title on the grandest stage of them all but the win was tinged with sadness as WrestleMania 36 took place in front of no fans due to the global pandemic which was then in its very early stages.
Drew McIntyre was the name on everyone’s lips when WWE brought a stadium show to the UK for the first time in 30 years as he challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of Clash at the Castle in 2022. Unfortunately, McIntyre was undone in his attempt to win the gold by a debuting Solo Sikoa.
McIntyre will enter WrestleMania 39 – the eighth of his career – to challenge Gunther for the WWE Intercontinental Championship in a Triple Threat match which also features Sheamus. However, a new report states that this could be the last time McIntyre finds himself on the grandest stage of them all.
PWInsider has reported that Drew McIntyre is now in the final year of his contract with WWE and that the two sides “aren’t even close” to agreeing on a new deal. It is stated that the contract does not end “imminently” but unless something changes, it looks like McIntyre’s WWE career could be coming to a close.
