Abdullah The Butcher Suffered Two Strokes In 2025

A more recent update provides insight into what led to Abdullah the Butcher’s hospitalization.

While speaking on a recent Wrestling Observer Radio session, Dave Meltzer revealed that the former wrestler suffered two strokes in early 2025. He further confirmed that the 84-year-old was doing better.

Meltzer further claimed that Abdullah’s health issues may have been the result of his size and physical toll from decades of competition.

He’s doing better. He had two strokes from what I understand. But he’s—he’s doing better, so that’s good news. I mean, you know… eighty-four.

I mean, he was very, very heavy. Like, very heavy for decades, but still going. He’s lost a lot, a lot of weight. Thank God. And, yeah, he’s recovering well, that’s good news. [H/T: Ringside News]

The hardcore legend was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011, and was a subject for an episode of Dark Side of the Ring in 2023.
