Abdullah The Butcher Caused Bloody Chaos Across The Globe
After practising karate and judo as a child, Lawrence Shreve made his professional wrestling debut in 1958, aged 17. Initially touring Canada under a variety of different names, it wasn’t until Shreve became Abdullah The Butcher and fully embraced life as a hardcore wrestler that his career truly began to take off.
While he would spend his career in North America feuding with the likes of The Sheik, Ernie Lad, and Bruiser Brody, he found his greatest success in Japan. Across multiple tours, Abdullah established himself as one of the biggest attractions in Japan thanks to bloody battles with Terry Funk, Giant Baba and regular Detroit foe, The Sheik.
By 1986, Abdullah was working for World Class Championship Wrestling in Texas, later joining WCW and taking part in the infamous Chamber of Horrors match where he teamed with Cactus Jack, The Diamond Studd and Big Van Vader in defeat to Sting, El Gigante, and The Steiners.
Abdullah found his way to ECW in 1993, and he continued to wrestle until 2010 despite his advancing age and mounting health problems. The hardcore legend was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011.
Abdullah The Butcher was a subject for an episode of Dark Side of the Ring in 2023.
