Hollywood heavyweights are behind a new movie based on Hulk Hogan’s legal battle with Gawker.

It was recently reported that Ben Affleck is set to star as Hulk Hogan in the movie, titled “Killing Gawker.” Variety has now confirmed that the film is entering production with a screenplay penned by Charles Randolph. The script was acquired by Artists Equity, the production company founded by Affleck and Matt Damon, and is based on the book, ‘Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue’ by Ryan Holiday.

Good Will Hunting Director Gus Van Sant is tied to the project, and Affleck is still rumoured to play Hogan himself, although no casting has been confirmed.

Hogan’s case centred around a sex tape Gawker released of him and Heather Clem, the ex-wife of Hogan’s former friend and radio host, Bubba The Love Sponge. Hogan sued the company, and in March 2016 a jury voted in favour of the WWE Hall of Famer.

Hulk Hogan was awarded $115 million in compensatory damages, $60 million for emotional distress, and $25 million in punitive damages. The loss resulted in Gawker filing for bankruptcy.

Hulk Hogan Names Modern WWE Stars He Would Want To Wrestle

Hulk Hogan has named Roman Reigns as a star he wants to get in the ring with, on the provision that he could be the heel. He would also want to face CM Punk and Seth Rollins, claiming the matches would “do some crazy business.”
