Major AEW Star Plans To Retire In Two And A Half Years
AEW star Dustin Rhodes has no plans to retire anytime soon.
Instead, he plans to build a storyline leading up to his retirement match in the future. Rhodes also feels AEW may want to give him a farewell similar to Sting, and he wishes to capitalize on it.
The veteran wrestler sat with Renee Paquette on Close Up w/ Renee Paquette to discuss his future plans with the brand.
When asked about his illustrious 37-year wrestling career, Rhodes recalled losing his passion for the business around 2017, which was reignited by AEW finalizing a match with his brother Cody Rhodes.
Rhodes also praised Tony Khan’s vision, saying that he makes wrestlers feel special.
Dustin Rhodes Talks AEW Retirement
The discussion with Renee, then, headed to Dustin Rhodes’ retirement.
Whenever the end is, it is kind of near, but not too close. Do we ever really retire in this business? As long as I have the passion, I’m gonna continue to do it.
Paquette recalled Dustin having his dream match with his brother and wondered whether he had given his retirement match any thought.
That, I’ve thought up, I’ve thought in depth, and there’s a list of three guys. I’d rather not say them right now, I want to keep that close to my chest, but I do have a plan. It’s not soon, guys. I know I’ve said I have one more year sometimes in the past, and it always changes. Seriously, it’s not very close, but it is. I would say a couple of years, two and a half, maybe. I do have a plan of who I want to work, who I want to face, and I think Tony’s going to be okay with that.
Rhodes is currently one-half of the Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship with Sammy Guevara.
