Macho Man Randy Savage Auction Earns Huge Sums For WWE Gear
An auction of one WWE Hall of Famer’s memorabilia has raised almost $200,000 as collectors snap into Macho Man Randy Savage’s old ring gear.
Macho Man Randy Savage was undoubtedly one of the most popular wrestling stars of the eighties and nineties. Savage achieved immortality when he captured the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 4 which then launched him into an iconic year-long storyline with Hulk Hogan.
That, of course, culminated with Hogan winning his title back at WrestleMania 5 but Savage had found his place at the top of the company.
In the early nineties, Randy Savage was reduced to a commentary role in WWE and made his way to WCW. There Savage was back in the ring with Hulk Hogan but it wasn’t long until the Mega Powers were back on the same page in the black and white of the NWO.
Sadly, Randy Savage died of a heart attack while at the wheel of a car in May 2011. His career was rightfully celebrated four years later by WWE when Randy Savage was inducted into the company’s Hall of Fame. But all these years after his death, Savage’s popularity remains strong as seen by the results of an auction of his old ring gear.
Randy Savage Gear A Hit With Fans
Heritage Auctions recently held the sale of many outfits from his iconic career with the sale raising $197,531. The highest price for a single lot was $45,140 – that was for a “1990’s Macho Man Randy Savage Worn Jacket & Outfit with Glasses” with most of the outfit apparently worn at WCW Bash At The Beach 1995 and for a Slim Jims ad campaign.
Savage’s ring-worn outfit from the 1991 Royal Rumble which was also signed by the legend also fetched a pretty prize as it sold for almost $20,000.
