“I’d Just Leave Him Home” – Jim Cornette On Andrade El Idolo
Jim Cornette has detailed how he’d handle the ongoing saga between Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara – give Andrade what he wants.
Jim Cornette, a credible wrestling promoter in his own right, has claimed he’d leave Andrade El Idolo at home if he had his way.
This comes after days of beef being aired on social media between Andrade and Sammy Guevara, and a subsequent backstage altercation during the latest AEW Dynamite that saw Andrade sent home and removed from the 7 October AEW Rampage vs. Pres10 Vance. Sammy Guevara, meanwhile, remained at Dynamite, winning in the main event.
Speaking on the latest Jim Cornette Experience podcast, Cornette detailed how he’d deal with Andrade in this situation, explaining why leaving him at home is the best solution:
“Well, that’s the thing is I’d just leave him home. But I’d pay him. Because it’s not important whether he shows up or doesn’t, whether he’s on television or not on television, whether he’s on their events or not on their events, it’s not going to impact their business from a financial standpoint, one iota. Nobody’s buying a ticket to see him, nobody’s turning tickets back in because he’s not there. He’s on the card.
If you fire him, then you’ve set a precedent, where, you know, anybody that wants to get out of there can do something to f*cking get fired. At this point, Tony’s [Khan] going to have to realise he has been taken on a lot of these guys he signed long-term, PAC! He’s got PAC for f*cking five years, right? Jesus Christ, we’ve seen everything he can do, and you can see that in three weeks. It’s the same thing every time.”
Andrade El Idolo explained how he signed a three-year deal with AEW when he first debuted with AEW in June 2021, meaning he’s contracted through to the summer of 2024 unless his deal is terminated beforehand.
News of Andrade and Sammy’s personal issues left many within AEW “frustrated” and “upset” even before their backstage scuffle in Dynamite. Talent is particularly discontent with Tony Khan’s decision to send only Andrade home, particularly given his reaction to the All Out incident.
