LA Knight Comments On What Resonates With His WWE Persona
LA Knight has opened up on his approach in WWE after admitting wrestling had gotten “too goofy”.
Knight has become one of the most popular Superstars in WWE with hot crowd reactions for his every appearance.
The Megastar feels that his ability to join in with the silly side of promos with a mixture of turning serious has allowed WWE fans to resonate with his character.
This weekend LA Knight secured a huge victory at Payback to continue his in-ring form as he defeated The Miz with Hollywood A-list John Cena the special guest referee.
Just last month at SummerSlam, LA Knight was given the backing of long-term Wrestling sponsors as he won the Slim Jim Battle Royal. But over the following weeks has had to battle with a jealous Miz as the former WWE Champion goaded Knight across both Raw and SmackDown.
Knight was discussing his time in WWE whilst appearing on The Good Doctor JM Housewright ahead of his Payback battle with The Miz.
During the interview, The Megastar opened up on why he has approached his promos, ensuring he finds a balance between tongue-in cheek with a serious tone.
“I don’t know exactly. Personally, I feel like if I was just to take a stab at it, my feeling about wrestling in the last, I’m gonna say seven years or so has been it’s gotten a little…wrestling has always had a little goofiness to it, but it’s gotten a little too goofy. There’s been a little bit too much tongue-in-cheek, wink-wink kind of stuff as opposed to a guy who’s just gonna come in, talk some trash, and fight.
“Now, I guess you could say you had that with like a Brock Lesnar, or maybe a Roman Reigns or guys at the top, but I would say, moreover, down underneath that and across the business, even outside of WWE, it’s just been a lot of goofiness and silliness.
“Look I say plenty of stuff that probably makes people laugh, probably makes people chuckle. But at the same time, I turn a corner and I get to a point. I’m not out here doing silly stuff. It’s not a joke. I can make a joke, but it’s gonna get really serious real quick after that. If I’m gonna guess, that’s the thing that I think resonates.”
LA Knight Fans Told “Great Things Come To Those Who Wait”
Despite back to back victories on WWE Premium Live Events, LA Knight has not been able to secure a Championship match.
Following the Slim Jim Battle Royale victory, Knight faced off against Austin Theory for a shot at the United States Championship on SmackDown.
But following interference from The Mix, Theory rolled up Knight to progress and earn the right to face off against Rey Mysterio at this weekend’s Payback.
Fans of the former Million Dollar Champion had once again been left frustrated after expecting to see Knight with Championship Gold this summer.
At July’s Money In The Bank post event press conference Triple H was questioned about why the hot favourite LA Knight has not been successful in securing the Men’s briefcase and purely stated that “great things come to those who wait”.
Knight has admitted how he nearly hung up his boots during the pandemic before signing for WWE.
Whilst he is yet to taste Championship success since moving to the main roster, his victories over long term Superstars such as The Miz are helping Knight secure long term momentum.
