Kurt Angle Wanted WrestleMania Rematch With Shawn Michaels
Kurt Angle loved his WrestleMania match with Shawn Michaels so much that he wanted to do it again.
At WrestleMania 21, Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels stole the show with one of the best matches in WrestleMania history. It was a certified dream match that many fans have called one of the best matches of the decade.
The two wrestlers did face off again a few months later at Vengeance 2005, and that match was won by Michaels. With the score tied at 1-1, a tie-breaker was expected.
But it never came. Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels never faced off again and now that both men have since retired from in-ring competition, said rubber match will never take place.
But that’s not for a lack of trying. On a recent edition of his Kurt Angle Show podcast, Angle explained how he pitched for one more match with Michaels. Alas it never materialized.
“We were doing a lot of on and off. Shawn and I were working together all year long, since 2005 at WrestleMania. All through that year, all 2005, in the beginning of 2006, I was still working with Shawn and John Cena, but I would imagine it would be a program either with John Cena or Shawn Michaels.
We were doing a lot of work together, and I would have been really excited about that. To work with Shawn again would have been the match that I would have picked for WrestleMania, definitely. To be able to wrestle Shawn a second time at WrestleMania, that would have been incredible.”
