Kevin Owens Dealing With Injury “For A While”
Kevin Owens received medical attention on Raw following an attack by Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley but it seems the star has been dealing with an injury for longer than that.
The issues between The Judgment Day and the WWE Tag Team Champions Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn continued on Raw in Tampa leading to a one-on-one match between Zayn and Dirty Dominik Mysterio for the young star’s NXT North American Championship
Given the personalities involved in that match, there were no surprises that shenanigans were in play with Owens, Damian Priest, and Rhea Ripley all being ejected from ringside. That led to The Judgment Day pair laying a beat down on Kevin Owens in the entrance way which distracted Zayn long enough for Mysterio to win and retain his title. Sami Zayn checked on his tag team partner and Kevin Owens was seen being looked over by medical personnel backstage.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer confirmed that Owens is indeed injured and has been dealing with a fractured rib for some time:
“It’s a fractured rib. He’s [Owens] been actually working on it for a while, and it was one of those things where they were waiting for a time to finish up whatever they need to finish up. I don’t know if they were always going to do this angle, but they were going to do something, he’s going to get a rest.
“I don’t know how long and I don’t know what the status of the tag team titles are, I’m sure that will probably be addressed in the next couple of days. But it was a legit, he has been working on a legit injury, so that’s the basic jist of the story there.”
It remains to be seen if Kevin Owens will be forced to miss any time from the ring as a result of the injury. As things stand the WWE Tag Team Championship is not scheduled to be defended at SummerSlam which is in less than two weeks.
