Kenny Omega Explains Embarrassing Botched AEW Match
Kenny Omega is no stranger to five-star matches, but has had to give some details of one which went horribly wrong.
After a bitter rivalry, everything came to a head between AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley at Revolution 2021, when the pair collided in an Exploding Ring Barbed Wire Deathmatch. Many expected fireworks during the match during the match before a massive explosion at the end – instead, they got a match which delivered followed by some sparklers.
In a discussion with Renee Paquette on her The Sessions Podcast, Kenny Omega has opened up on the ending to the match, and how it changed causing the unimpressive finale.
I was giving the entire situation the benefit of the doubt because it was a super windy day. It was a very windy day, and the way that the wind travelled through that kind of half open air arena, I thought maybe this place has been so wind tunnelled up that something has caused this to not fire the way that it should. I was kind of hoping that maybe that’s what it was.
But it was just like, when I heard the real reason was like the boss who was not there for rehearsals, had then showed up to the actual real life show. And he had said, I’ve got a way to make this look even better, and that was his idea. I was like wait, you decided on the spot when he didn’t know the idea. You didn’t see the rehearsal. And that’s, that’s the direction he decided to go in. And yes, there were misfires within his new idea that he decided, but I wish we just would have done what we practised.
During the interview, Kenny Omega also opened up on what the future may hold for him in the wrestling industry.
