Kenny Omega Named Best In-Ring Talent By AEW Legend
A legendary name in AEW has praised Kenny Omega as the best in-ring performer in the company.
Kenny Omega made his return to the pro wrestling ring at Wrestle Dynasty when he defeated Gabe Kidd in the Tokyo Dome. Omega lost a year of his career due to a serious illness known as diverticulitis, which led to two feet of his intestines being removed and a major surgery as well.
The match between Omega and Kidd was praised heavily by the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, who rated it 5.25* which means it was an incredible match.
A match in the Tokyo Dome was a fitting place for Omega’s return to the ring due to his success in NJPW as a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. In AEW, Omega is an Executive Vice President who is a former AEW World Champion, Tag Team Champion, and Trios Tag Team Champion.
Jim Ross is a WWE Hall of Famer who has been with AEW since the company launched in January 2019 as an announcer. While JR is not a full-time announcer currently, he was on the call for many of Omega’s biggest AEW matches. While speaking on his Grillin JR podcast, Ross praised Omega as a performer while also saying the company should use Omega as one of AEW’s biggest stars.
“He’s the best in-ring talent now that Daniel Bryan [Bryan Danielson] in on the sideline, taking a sabbatical. And it may be a long-term sabbatical, hell I don’t know. But I think he’s the next in line, I would think. And getting a healthy Kenny Omega back on your roster, back on your television show is a good thing.”
“So I think he elevates everybody else’s work, because nobody wants to get in the ring with Kenny and look bad. And he’s going to have a good match no matter what. So I’m glad he’s back. I like Kenny. He sent me a nice text on my birthday. He’s just a good human being in my estimation. So coming back is good timing for Tony Khan.”
Kenny Omega In Action On AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage
In the main event of AEW Dynamite on January 8th, Kenny Omega spoke openly about his issues with diverticulitis. As he spoke about his love for pro wrestling, he was interrupted by Don Callis, which led to Don’s “Family” members Brian Cage, Lance Archer and Kyle Fletcher making the save. Thankfully for Omega, Will Ospreay made the save. Omega and Ospreay exchanged words, which could mean a future alliance or maybe a future match.
The issues that Omega had with the Don Callis Family will lead to Omega competing in an AEW ring for the first time in over a year on January 15th when he faces Brian Cage in singles action. That’s just one of the big matches at AEW Dynamite Maximum Carnage since Jon Moxley is going to defend the AEW World Title against Powerhouse Hobbs on the show as well.
