Karl Anderson Provides Update On NJPW NEVER Openweight Championship Situation
Last month when Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows returned to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to reunite with AJ Styles as The O.C., the wrestling community was in a complete uproar, and in the process of everything, Anderson was still holding New Japan Pro Wrestling’s IWGP Never Openweight Championship.
Since his comeback to the World Wrestling Entertainment, there have been a ton of questions and speculation around Karl Anderson and his status, as well as the relationship between WWE and NJPW, and this really came into the spotlight after the Crown Jewel situation. Despite all of the controversy and backlash on both sides, it appears that there has been a deal made between everybody involved.
Gallows recently appeared on Corey Graves’ “After the Bell” podcast and spoke about everything that’s going on between himself, WWE and NJPW.
“I’m gonna go back [to New Japan] on my time. New Japan Pro-Wrestling usually strips their champions when they can’t make a show. And they threw a leniency in there, because they announced a match for me when we hadn’t totally agreed on what we were going to do … The dates are coming up.
Karl Anderson continued:
I’ve gotten some slanderous tweets,” Anderson joked. “I’ve messaged Rocky Romero, who’s a great friend of ours [and is] one of the office brothers at New Japan Pro-Wrestling. I said ‘I can’t wait to announce this date, because these people are just really, really hating me right now.'”
