Jon Moxley Hates What AEW World Title Represents

Jon Moxley AEW

Jon Moxley has explained his hatred of the AEW World Championship.

The 38 year-old made his long-awaited return to the company on the 28th August edition of Dynamite, adopting a new villainous attitude. He then shocked the wrestling world by suffocating Bryan Danielson with a plastic bag following the Aberdeen, Washington natives’ successful AEW World Championship defence against Jack Perry at AEW All Out.

After defeating Darby Allin on 25th September to earn an opportunity at Danielson’s title at AEW WrestleDream, Moxley went on to defeat the fan favourite at the huge pay-per-view event on 12th October to lift the AEW World Championship for a record-setting fourth time. The win also brought and end to Danielson’s full time career in the process.

Despite the victory, Moxley has since refused to carry the title belt with him since and finally explained his actions on the 19th October edition of AEW Collision. Moxley detailed his disdain for the title, dismissing the highly sought after prize as meaningless:

“Regarding the AEW World Championship, nothing has changed, is different. Nothing changed last Saturday night, nothing has changed since the moment I arrived in AEW.

Nobody owns that belt, it doesn’t belong to anybody. It’s not for Bryan Danielson or anybody else, it’s for the position, and only one man has ever sat in that chair. That is me.

Somebody spent a lot of money on that belt and it’s really supposed to mean something. It’s just gold and leather, and when I look at it, it’s a symbol of everything I hate in this sport.”

Moxley would go on to elaborate on the controversial statement, revealing his belief that the title represented everything he had been battling to prevent in the business:

“It’s a symbol of everything I’ve been fighting against in this business for years, everything that AEW was not supposed to be. If nobody else is going to say it, I’ll say it.”

Jon Moxley Booking Criticised By WCW Legend

The booking of Moxley since his return has been met with negative reviews by former WCW legend, Konnan.

The veteran former WCW United States Champion recently shared his disappointment at the company’s decision to have Moxley defeat Darby Allin to earn a shot at the AEW World Championship, noting his belief that AEW should be continuing to build Allin as a top star.
