Jon Moxley Issues Challenge To Former AEW World Champion
Jon Moxley wasn’t happy about losing a match on AEW Dynamite, so he issued a challenge on Collision.
In the main event of AEW Dynamite Spring BreakThru in Boston, The Death Riders trio of Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and AEW World Champion Jon Moxley teamed up to defend the AEW Trios Tag Team Titles against The Opps trio of Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata & Powerhouse Hobbs.
It was a match that had some changes since Moxley was replacing the injured Pac while AEW claimed that Hook was attacked by The Death Riders, which was a cover for Hook having some issue that caused him to miss the show.
The match ended with a title change since Shibata was choking out Castagnoli on the ramp, Hobbs slammed Yuta on the commentary table and Joe caught Moxley in the Coquina Clutch. The referee checked on Moxley, who was passing out, so Joe got the win for his team.
That title change was treated like a big celebration since The Death Riders have tormented the AEW roster for the past six months. The AEW babyface locker room emptied out to celebrate with the new champions while the fans in Boston loved it.
Jon Moxley Wants To Face Samoa Joe In A Singles Match
There was a special Thursday edition of AEW Collision Spring BreakThru that also took place in Boston. It was on Thursday due in part to the NHL Playoffs on TNT on Saturday, but also because WWE WrestleMania 41 is on Saturday.
During the show, the AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and the Death Riders appeared to address the title loss from one night earlier. A furious Moxley went on to issue a challenge to former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe.
“All of you who were celebrating in the ring last night, enjoy it now, because it’s the last chance you’re going to have to celebrate for a long time. As far as the Young Bucks, after last night, I’ve decided I officially don’t like you two, so stay in your own lane.
From the first day I started in this sport there was one undisputed baddest man in professional wrestling—Samoa Joe. I have always shown him respect and treated him with reverence. I have given Samoa Joe space, and it could have stayed that way but Joe, you started something that I have to finish.
Because I don’t know any other way. I will not run, hide, rollover or die. I will fight you for the death for the AEW World Championship because I don’t know any other way. So let me make it real clear. Samoa Joe, I am challenging you. You’ve known me long enough. You know exactly what you’re dealing with.”
Samoa Joe appeared on the show later in a taped promo with his tag team partners, but he did not officially address Moxley’s challenge.
An AEW World Title match between Moxley and Joe could happen at the Double or Nothing PPV on May 25th, but AEW could also opt to do it on Dynamite in the coming weeks as well.
Even though Moxley and Joe have been pro wrestlers for a combined 45+ years, their only singles was in December 2017 on WWE Monday Night Raw when Moxley was known as Dean Ambrose. Joe got the win in that match.
