WWE Champion Overwhelmed By John Cena Praise
The kind words John Cena had to say about a younger champion in WWE has overwhelmed the wrestler.
WrestleMania 41 was a history-making night for John Cena as he became the first-ever 17-time World Champion in WWE history, and some might say pro wrestling history.
Dominik Mysterio also won his first singles title on the WWE main roster by becoming the Intercontinental Champion at WrestleMania 41. Considering Mysterio had his first televised WWE match less than five years ago, it’s a tremendous accomplishment for him.
After WrestleMania 41, John Cena went on the Pat McAfee Show to praise “Dirty” Dom, who was born for pro wrestling after learning from his “deadbeat dad” Rey Mysterio, who is a WWE Hall of Famer that Cena knows very well.
“Dom Mysterio is born for this. Period. I got to work with him very early in his career and I’ve had the chance to work with experienced talent and also the chance to work with a lot of new talent. You can tell right away, there are always late arrivals and people can not get it, and then figure it out, I’m a living example of that.
There are also those people…I remember Randy Orton making everything look so easy. Dom just makes everything effortless. He doesn’t crack under pressure.
Any pool we’ve dropped him in, he has not only treaded water, he’s swimming laps around everyone else. Dom Mysterio, we aren’t even close to what that kid is capable of. He’s incredible, and he’s going to be incredible for the next 20 years or as long as he wants to be in this business. He will be, and I love his dad [Rey Mysterio], he will be the most famous Mysterio.”
“I Was A John Cena Mark” – Dominik Mysterio
Dominik Mysterio spoke to The Wrestling Classic on Casual Conversations recently, where Dirty Dom reacted to John Cena’s kind words.
“That was super dope of him to do that. John doesn’t have to do any of that stuff. He’s John Cena. He’s the biggest movie star in the world, along with the biggest wrestler currently in the world.
For him to say those things about me, it’s really cool to see. Especially because I started with him when the pandemic ended and we had the live crowd back. He was the guy that was there for me with the tag matches and giving me advice.
We were both babyfaces at that time. I was tagging with Cena and Rey Mysterio against Roman [Reigns] and The Usos [Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso]. I had Cena, Roman, The Usos in my ear this whole time. The fact that Cena was able to see me from that beginning to a year or two later when he came back, I was a bad guy then and I got to wrestle him in a dark match.
He’s seen me through this whole process and what I’ve gone through. For him to say those words about me is really special. I’ve known that dude since I was a kid. I love the Dr. of Thuganomics. I played his album when I was in school or before I jumped in the shower. I was a Cena mark. It’s really cool to hear from a guy like that.”
At WWE Backlash, John Cena retained his WWE Title over Randy Orton thanks to a belt shot. At the same show, Dominik Mysterio held onto the Intercontinental Title against Penta, thanks to interference from El Grande Americano, among others.
