John Cena Names Key Lesson He Learned From The Rock
John Cena learned an important lesson.
On December 13, John Cena will step into a WWE ring as an active wrestler for the final time. After a record-breaking career both inside the squared circle and at the box office, Cena is set to wrestle his last match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
In the build-up, Cena has been looking back at some of his biggest moments and biggest matches, and arguably none were bigger than his two WrestleMania clashes with The Rock.
John Cena Learned From The Rock
Cena and The Rock squared off at WrestleMania 28 and 29, and each man holds one win over the other. In total, the pair have shared the ring on three occasions, as they also teamed at the 2011 Survivor Series to beat The Awesome Truth.
More recently, Cena turned heel at the behest of The Rock at Elimination Chamber 2025, but the storyline was ultimately dropped with very little explanation.
In a new WWE interview with Tom Rinaldi, Cena reflected on working with The Great One and broke down what he learned from the Hollywood megastar.
“I learned excellence. Absolute excellence. I learned what a good golf shot feels like when you go out and make 60 of them and hand in your scorecard. That’s what I learned.
I learned the noise every time. Even in your heart of hearts, maybe he thought he could have given more, the noise is still there. There is not a moment we shared without the noise. That is very rare when you’re paired with somebody that you always have that. There is usually some dead air. Not with him.”
While looking ahead to his match with Cena, Gunther brushed off criticism of the booking that got him there. The former World Heavyweight Champion said he wasn’t bothered by those who say he shouldn’t be in the match, adding that he enjoys antagonising people.
