John Cena In Line For Huge SummerSlam Match
John Cena will grace The Grandest Stage of Them All in Los Angeles, CA when he does battle with Austin Theory for the US Championship but it looks like there could be another huge match in Cena’s future.
For the first time since 2020, John Cena will be on the WrestleMania card after he was challenged to a match by Austin Theory when he made his highly anticipated return to Raw. Cena at first turned down Theory’s challenge, telling him that he wasn’t ready before letting the fans decide his fate. As a result, the two men will square off for the US Title.
However, Austin Theory might not have been WWE’s first choice to face off with John Cena as reports had suggested that Logan Paul could be the opponent for the sixteen-time champion of the world. However, Paul will instead do battle with Seth Rollins at the event but it seems that Cena and Paul could still clash.
WrestleVotes has reported that both men were keen to have the match and the idea is still “very much on the table” for SummerSlam:
“Logan loved the idea and Cena was totally down it. They’d have made mega money and it’s just a matter of when. They want to tell a good story because they’re megastars, so there’s got to be a reason.
“The match is very much on the table, even at a SummerSlam. All parties involved want to do it.”
SummerSlam will emanate from Ford Field in Detroit on the 5th of August so WWE is sure to be stacking the card to try and sell out the stadium.
