John Cena has only eight appearances left in WWE following Clash in Paris, where he battled Logan Paul.

Given that The Champ is on his final leg of The Farewell Tour, fans wondered why he decided to give Te Maverick a chance in his Farewell Tour when superstars such as AJ Styles could not get a spot on it.

The Leader of Centation explained his stance during the post-show Clash in Paris, and drew a comparison to the day when his pro-wrestling career took off.

John Cena expressed a challenge, and Logan Paul stepped up

When the 17-time World Champion was questioned about his choice, he gave a rather simple answer.

It wasn’t to elevate Logan Paul as a superstar, or that he handpicked The Maverick. John Cena wanted to give his absolute best to the business and wanted to know who could step up. Logan Paul did.

Back in the day, John Cena stepped out to the arena when Kurt Angle issued an open challenge in 2002.

He asked for the challenge. I said, ‘Hey guys, I feel pretty good. I think I am going to go down swinging. I want to give everything I have to the business. Who wants to step up? And man, I remember somebody giving me an opportunity in Chicago, Illinois. I stepped up, and I wasn’t ready, and there was a whole lot of people who could have faced Kurt Angle that night. I was the one who had the stupid bravery to slap him in the face. That’s how we started this journey. You know, so. I got a lot of respect for Logan Paul. And I see, and I think the WWE Universe can agree, I see so much potential in him, and he is just so good at this. I will say this, there has never been somebody who has been a marquee in this business that has been borderline unhealthy, obsessed with it.

John Cena further added that he has immense respect for Logan Paul for the athlete he is, and that, regardless of whether fans hate him or not, Cena has a lot of respect for The Maverick.

Coming to the other superstars who have had an impact on his career, Cena explained that while he cannot wrestle everyone, he is trying to pay homage to them by using their signature moves in his matches.
