John Cena Breaks Silence After WWE Retirement

John Cena has finally broken his silence after his WWE retirement match.

On December 13, the 48-year-old competed in his final match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII.

Since making LA Knight tap out in the final of the ‘Last Time Is Now’ tournament on last week’s SmackDown, The Ring General predicted a similar fate for Cena.

Cena had previously tapped out in 2004 during a match against Kurt Angle. So, Gunther was determined to break his opponent’s two-decade-long streak, something that he managed to accomplish against all odds.

The match witnessed intense back-and-forth action, with the Austrian dominating most of it.

John Cena absorbed a series of chops and clotheslines that left him winded during the closing minutes. Gunther then brought the Sleeper hold from his arsenal in the hopes of making Cena tap out.

The referee lifted and dropped Cena’s arm for the three count, only for him to hold it aloft at 3. Gunther retaliated with a fury of elbow shots before reapplying the Sleeper.

This time around, Cena tapped out, shocking everyone at the Capital One Arena.

John Cena Reacts After Saturday Night’s Main Event Loss

After his loss, John Cena was greeted in the ring by CM Punk and Cody Rhodes, who presented him with their world titles, something Cena has held at different points in his illustrious career.

The company’s executives, including Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, were by the ringside, too, along with several talents of the Stamford promotion.

Cena then took off his sneakers, his arm bands, and his wrist bands, before laying them in the middle of the ring, indicating the end of his wrestling career.

The 17-time world champion broke his silence by sharing a picture on Instagram containing his gear in the center of the ring.
