Joe Hendry Confirms Chase For WWE Gold

Joe Hendry

Joe Hendry has set his sights on the NXT Championship.

The popular Scottish star made global headlines on 20th April after answering Randy Orton’s open challenge at WrestleMania 41. ‘The Viper’ had originally been scheduled to face Kevin Owens in Las Vegas before a serious neck injury sidelined the Canadian just days before WWE’s top Premium Live Event.

The 36 year-old followed up his WrestleMania debut by confronting Trick Williams and Oba Femi on the 22nd April edition of NXT, with many speculating that WWE gold was on Hendry’s mind.

Speaking during a recent interview with ‘Wrestle India‘, the TNA World Champion confirmed that he was indeed targeting the NXT Championship:

“So first of all, Trick and Oba are at the top of the tree in NXT, and that’s why I went out and inserted myself into that situation because I have to be honest, this shoulder is growing because this (TNA World Title) is a heavy title, and I’m walking around with this all day.

The muscle’s building here, and this shoulder feels a little bit left out. So you know what? I think the NXT championship would look pretty good there. No official plans or anything like that yet, but look, who doesn’t want to be the NXT champion?

So that’s why I appeared on NXT, just to insert myself into the mix, and you know what? We’ll see what happens. That’s the amazing thing about this, is anything can happen at any time.”

Joe Hendry Dismisses Negative Take On WrestleMania Bout

Whilst fans were delighted by the appearance of Joe Hendry on ‘The Grandest Stage Of Them All’, a number of former stars have been critical of the one-sided nature of the bout.

Hendry has reacted quickly to dismiss those suggestions, insisting that the match was exactly what it should have been before revealing that John Cena and CM Punk had enforced that view.
