Jeff Jarrett Recalls WWE Hall Of Famer’s Shocking Departure
In a recent episode of his podcast “My World,” Jeff Jarrett shed light on the unexpected departure of Randy Savage from WWE in late 1994 after working for the company since 1985.
Jarrett recounted the day he learned about Savage’s exit, describing it as a moment that sent shockwaves through the wrestling community.
I got to the building early, and my dad, who was working for Vince [McMahon] at the time, approached me with the most bizarre look on his face.
Jerry Jarrett, visibly upset, broke the news to his son about the impending split between WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Randy Savage. The departure of Savage after nine years in WWE, was announced by McMahon himself in early November 1994 on Monday Night Raw. This rare live send-off underscored the significance of Savage’s exit. Jeff Jarrett emphasised the impact of this decision.
It was a huge deal, it caught everybody off guard, nobody saw it coming.
Jarrett’s account highlights McMahon’s commitment to ushering in the “New Generation” era of WWE and dedication to his vision for the company’s future.
If he’s letting go, in my mind, even in those the days, the second most recognisable wrestler on the planet, then he is all in on this and he is cutting ties with a personal friend of his because he thinks that’s what is best for business.
Despite the shock, Jarrett recalled how quickly the company moved on.
The next day at the Superstars taping, it was business [as usual]. The train never stops for no one, and I mean no one.
Randy Savage’s WWE departure marked the end of an era, but it wasn’t the end of his wrestling career. Within a month, Savage joined WCW. Sadly, Savage never returned to WWE before his untimely death in 2011, leaving fans to wonder what might have been.
