Jake Roberts On When He Picked Up Most Painful Injury
Wrestling legend Jake Roberts has singled out one injury in particular as the worst of his career – and it’s one which caused him to pass out from pain mid-match.
Like many, throughout his career Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts suffered plenty of injuries. Whilst some would end up taking a lot of time off, Roberts ended up working through the one which caused him the most pain at the time it happened.
In a discussion on his DDP Snake Pit Podcast, Jake Roberts spoke about separating his pec during a match against Andre The Giant, passing out from the pain, and not only finishing the match but then wrestling again later that evening.
Probably when I clotheslined Andre and he went through me, it ripped my pec in half. I remember going down and I thought I broke my shoulder. I’m just holding my shoulder like this. And I’m wiggling my fingers, you know, trying to get the feeling back in them and Andre reached down and grabbed me by his hand and jerked me to my feet, which stretched that back out again.
At which point I decide I’m going to sleep. I passed out in pain and when I woke up Andre has got me in a bear hug and he’s singing to me ‘Nice little baby, nice little baby…’ I woke I’m like ‘what the f*ck, oh my god Andre get us out of here.’ [Andre says] ‘No, we finish match.’ So we finished the match and then that night we wrestled again. Me with the blown pec, And I never took a day off, should have but didn’t.
Jake Roberts also recently discussed a storyline he had in WWE which he considered to be in extremely bad taste.
