Jade Cargill Backstage At Recent Dynamite, Update On AEW Status
Jade Cargill was backstage at a recent AEW Dynamite, and a new report provides an update on her status as her absence continues.
Former TBS Women’s Champion Jade Cargill made waves as soon as she joined All Elite Wrestling in 2020. Not only did she set the record as the longest-reigning champion in AEW history, she also boasted an undefeated record until May of 2023.
However, the former champion hasn’t been seen since losing the TBS Title to a returning Kris Statlander at Double or Nothing in May of 2023. She’s been quiet about here whereabouts during her hiatus and even hinted that she enjoys life outside of wrestling and might not return to the ring.
Is Jade Cargill Still Under AEW Contract?
While there is no word on a potential return to the squared circle for Cargill, a new report from Fightful Select reveals that the star was backstage during the August 9th taping of AEW Dynamite. The report did not note why she was backstage nor whether she plans to return any time soon, but does clarify that she is still under contract with AEW and is in the middle of a planned absence from the company.
In a July edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer called Cargill’s sudden disappearance “some of the weirdest booking ever,” writing:
“Now that nobody has mentioned Jade Cargill at all on television in some time, and she’s teased not coming back, that goes down as with hindsight some of the weirdest booking ever. She beat everyone, mostly in one-sided matches but the top women, in particular Britt Baker, were kept away from her. There were only a few competitive matches.”
“When she finally lost to Kris Statlander, it was total face saving in that she had a match right before. In theory, Statlander vs. Cargill should be a program but she’s gone with no explanation after years of being built.”
