Injured Ex-Champion’s AEW Future Uncertain, Shares Health Update
A former AEW champion has given the latest update on their health as their future in the company remains up in the air.
The last time fans saw former AEW Trios Champion Buddy Matthews in action was back at Grand Slam Australia in February, where he challenged Kazuchika Okada for the AEW Continental Championship in Matthews’ home country.
But what should have been a landmark night in his career soon went drastically wrong. Matthews injured his ankle vaulting into the ring before his bout with Okada, suffering ligament and cartilage damage. Despite that, Matthews still competed for over 13 minutes before Okada picked up the victory.
In the summer, Buddy Matthews confirmed that he’d need surgery to repair the damage, as things were not healing as they should be.
AEW’s Buddy Matthews Training For Comeback
Taking to social media, Buddy Matthews shared a video of himself stretching and working out as he gave everyone an update on his recovery:
Today was the first time since surgery to hit a hack squat. Still very restricted with ankle mobility but working on it daily!
Numbness is still a factor but hopefully subsides in the near future, but still unknown at this time. Swelling depends on the amount of rehab I’ve done that day but easily maintained with icing post. Take each day as it comes!
