Independent Wrestler ‘Pulls A Rick Rude’ With WWE Raw Appearance
Pulling a ‘Rick Rude’ refers to appearing on two different wrestling programmes in the same night, as an independent wrestler discovered this past Monday.
Made famous in 1997 by ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude, it’s possible for a pro wrestler to now appear across two separate programmes on the same night. With tape delay often being utilised in the modern age to bulk record a batch of episodes, it could easily be a common occurrence with two promoters making use of the same independent talent.
WWE and AEW did this on Monday, 29 August when they both hired Katie Arquette for the night. ‘The Queen of the Silver Screen’ competed on both Monday Night Raw and Dark: Elevation this week, the latter of which was taped five days earlier.
On Raw, she teamed with Dani Mo and Kayla Sparks in a losing effort to Asuka, Alexa Bliss, and current WWE Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. Over in AEW, she lost to Serena Deeb in a match originally taped on Wednesday, 24 August.
Although her Raw appearance was Arquette’s WWE debut, she’s made two previous appearances for All Elite Wrestling, dating back to last August. She was defeated by Jade Cargill on the 16 August broadcast Dark: Elevation, before she suffered her first loss to Serena on the 9 February Dynamite.
Contrary to popular belief, Katie has no relation to former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette, though he did make an appearance on a show she worked to present Katie with a fur coat.
