The Iconic WWE Match Bret Hart Wouldn’t Change At All

Bret Hart Reveals Who He Believes Took Over As Leader Of WWE

Bret Hart remains proud of one famous WrestleMania match.

Over the course of his career, Bret Hart wrestled in some of the greatest, and most famous matches in WWE history. His battles with brother Owen remain beloved to this day, while his matches with Shawn Michaels swung between legendary and stunningly controversial.

However, according to Hart, there’s one match that still stands tall above all others.

In a new feature by Sports Illustrated, The Hitman and Steve Austin looked back at their classic match at WrestleMania 13. The Submission Match remains one of the greatest bouts to ever grace a WWE ring and holds a special place in the hearts of fans around the world. The match also features the famous “double-turn” as Hart became a heel, and Austin went in the other direction becoming a babyface.

While reminiscing about the match, Hart said there’s nothing about it he’d change.

The match with Steve, that’s the greatest song I ever sang. When I watch it back, I wouldn’t change a thing. I still love seeing that spot where I’m punching the daylights out of Steve in the corner and he kicks me in the groin. It was a beautiful, violent piece of art. Working with Steve was easy, it was fun, and it was memorable.

We put a lot of heart into that match. It captures every element you see in a back-and-forth UFC fight. I always love the Iron Man match, too. Pound-for-pound workload, that was the hardest match of my career, but I love the psychology of my match with Steve.

I think of the expression, ‘No animals were harmed in the making of the movie.’ There were some hard falls and good shots with Steve, a fight between two warriors.”

The Feud Between Bret Hart And Goldberg Continues

During a recent interview, Goldberg said he “still wants to kill” Bret Hart, and said he was fed up with apologising to the WWE legend.

At WCW Starrcade 1999, challenged Hart for the World Championship, but during the match, delivered a stiff kick to Hart’s head giving him a concussion. Despite the incident, the pair finished the match with Hart sustaining even more damage in the process.

Ever since the pair have traded insults in interviews, and it seems the animosity won’t be put to bed any time soon.
