John Cena Recalls Being Hooked To Wrestling Because Of Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan passed away aged 71 on July 24, 2025.
His death led to the outpouring of messages from fans and wrestling superstars from different promotions.
Before making his final WWE RAW appearance, John Cena was on ESPN’s First Take, where he discussed the Hulk Hogan match that got him hooked on pro wrestling.
For me, it was seeing Hulk Hogan and The Iron Sheik on MTV. I was very young, and MTV was something you shouldn’t watch. So when wrestling was on MTV, it made wrestling okay. My dad was a huge wrestling fan, and we were allowed to watch MTV. So it was a cross of things – I wanted to see music videos, I didn’t really understand wrestling, and to see Hulk Hogan beat The Iron Sheik at Madison Square Garden for the World Heavyweight Championship…I was hooked.
