Hulk Hogan’s Bold Claim That He Almost Played For The New York Yankees
Before becoming a household name in professional wrestling, Hulk Hogan claimed that he was on the path to a career in Major League Baseball.
In a 2016 interview with The Mercury News, Hulk Hogan shared insights into his early athletic days and how a career-ending injury dashed his baseball dreams. Growing up in West Tampa, Hogan admitted to being an overweight child but claimed he had an undeniable talent at the plate, which made him stand out.
“I was a fat kid growing up, but I hit more home runs than anyone in West Tampa Little League.”
He recalled hitting towering home runs that set him apart from his peers, even breaking records in his league. However, despite his supposed power at the plate, Hogan acknowledged his lack of speed and agility.
“When they put up an electric scoreboard, I hit one over the lights. But if I hit a ball and it hit the wall, they’d throw me out at second base because I was so fat and slow.”
Hogan’s prodigious talent apparently caught the attention of scouts from the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds, yet he said his baseball career came to an abrupt halt due to an unfortunate injury. He vividly recalled the moment:
“I was playing third base. The bases were loaded. I moved in on the infield. The guy stepped outside the box and hit one off the handle. And as it dribbled down the third base line, I ran in — this was the bottom of the seventh inning and the score was 0-0 — and I picked it up. As I threw underhanded to first base I broke my arm. My arm was never the same.”
Although Hogan claims interest from the Yankees and Reds, there is no verification from either team regarding his potential scouting.
