History Repeated As New WWE Tag Team Champions Crowned

A popular team went back to the future to win the WWE Tag Team Titles.

While much of the attention is already on Money in the Bank, there was the small matter of the July 5th edition of SmackDown to deal with first. As it turned out, the show was a big one for two of the Blue brand’s most popular stars.

In the main event, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano defeated Austin Theory and Grayson Waller to claim the WWE Tag Team Titles.

The end of the match came with both Gargano and Ciampa locking in cross-faces on their rivals until Waller tapped out. The finish was a callback to DIY winning the NXT Tag Team Titles from The Revival in the same city back in 2016.

Waller and Theory had held the gold since WrestleMania 40. The victory marks the first time both Gargano and Ciampa have held championships of any kind on the main roster.

Elsewhere on the show, Kevin Owens declared an emotional declaration of war on The Bloodline after revealing his mother was rushed to hospital. Owens said being at her bedside and seeing her fight like hell means he’s throwing everything at the group like never before.

There were also wins for Bayley, The Street Profits, and Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair.
