A big-name WWE superstar has credited GUNTHER for helping to make the Intercontinental Title more prestigious during his championship reign.

When it comes to the greatest Intercontinental Championship reign in the 44-year history of the title, there are some people that would already say Gunther has had the best title reign ever.

After all, Gunther has had some incredible matches for the IC TItle including the memorable Match of the Year contender with Sheamus at Clash at the Castle 2022 as well as this year’s WrestleMania 39 match with Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Both of those matches were five-star level matches to a lot of people while many other Gunther title matches are praised heavily for being great as well.

Gunther’s reign as Intercontinental Champion started in June 2022 and he hasn’t been beaten in the past 15 months. If Gunther is to beat the Honky Tonk Man’s record of 454 days as Intercontinental Champion, he will have to hold the IC Title until at least September 6th.

In order for Gunther to get to the record, he will likely have to go through Drew McIntyre, who returned at Money in the Bank last week. The Scottish Warrior McIntyre returned to WWE at Money in the Bank after three months away and laid out the Intercontinental Champion to make it clear he is coming after the title he once held over a decade ago.

While appearing on WWE’s The Bump this week, Drew McIntyre credited Gunther for an incredible championship reign that has helped restore the prestige in the coveted Intercontinental Title.

“Yeah, he certainly raised the prestige 100%. The Intercontinental Championship is where it should be, where it used to be when I was growing up, and I can’t remember it being at this level for a long time. When I won Intercontinental Championship in 2009, you know, we still had such prestige and somewhere along the way, it kind of slipped and, we don’t need to get into the ins and outs of why that happened, but I’ve watched GUNTHER’s development since I saw him when I was outside of WWE the first time I saw him in Germany.”

“I said, ‘That guy’s got something.’ He’s found himself. He’s got himself in the best shape of his life. He’s been on a tear over the past year plus, you know, if his lads might get involved and whenever he is in trouble, and I’ll deal with that. But you can’t take away from him what he is achieved, what he’s done for that title.”

“And, right now, you know, with the, the World Title, I think there’s gonna be a bit of competition going on with the IC title and the World Title. You know, what’s the most exciting segment to watch? I know how competitive Seth [Rollins] is and I know how competitive I am, how competitive GUNTHER is. I really think this is gonna be an exciting time for Raw overall.”

Gunther clearly deserves a lot of credit and so does the WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, who has featured the IC Title more than Vince McMahon ever did when Vince was running the show.

The highly anticipated IC TItle clash between the Austrian champion and the Scottish challenger is likely going to happen on April 5th at Ford Field in Detroit at SummerSlam. It’s not official yet, but it should be soon.
