GUNTHER Reminds Veteran Wrestler Of WWE Legend

GUNTHER WWE Intercontinental Champion

According to one star, Gunther has the demeanor of a multi-time WWE Champion.

Since moving up to the main roster in 2022, Gunther has become a dominant force in WWE. Less than two months after his SmackDown debut, the Ring General captured the Intercontinental Championship. Since then, Gunther has defeated legends and former World Champions on his way to becoming the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.

However, one man he has never faced in the ring is Randy Orton. Seeing the Austrian star take on The Viper would be something of a dream match for many fans, and now that Orton is back from injury, it once again seems like a possibility the bout could happen.

In a recent interview on The Kurt Angle Show, former WWE star Shelton Benjamin spoke about the two men, saying that Gunther has a lot of similarities with Orton.

“We were on different shows, so I never really got to work with him. I hung around with him, we met and chatted, and he seems like a really cool guy. He kind of reminds me of Randy [Randy Orton], to be honest. Just in his demeanor, his movements and even his build, to some degree.”

Going on, Benjamin admitted that he didn’t see the appeal of the former United Kingdom Champion at first, but thinks he has now leveled up.

“The first time I saw Gunther, he was like a hundred pounds heavier and I didn’t see the appeal, but I haven’t seen the appeal in a lot of people who turned out to be phenomenal. When he finally made it to WWE and started trimming down, you start to realize, this guy is leveling up so he can belong here.

“What they’ve done with him, what he’s managed to do, his look is straight out of a comic book. He looks the part. I don’t know him well enough to comment on his personality, but he’s always been nice enough and kind and I think he’s doing a phenomenal job.”

A former Intercontinental Champion himself, Benjamin joked that he wants to be the one to end Gunther’s reign.

“Yeah, I do feel like I need to go end that title reign, but that’s a different story [Laughs]. What he’s doing is great, but of the 2010s, I’m still the man. You can’t take the from me. I’m the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 2010s. Live with it, hate it, be mad, there is only one thing you can do and that’s deal with it.”

Gunther Will Enter 2024 Royal Rumble

Gunther will look to add to his accolades when he enters this year’s Royal Rumble match. The star made his intentions clear on the January 15th edition of Raw. He noted that he almost won the 30-man spectacular in 2023 after entering at number 1 before declaring that this time he would win it and main event WrestleMania 40.
