The WWE Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER is proud of his title reign as he gets closer to the record number of days holding that championship.

It was one week ago today on July 15th when GUNTHER reached 400 days as the Intercontinental Champion. Now at 407 days, the talented Austrian is on the short list of men that held the IC Title for more than 400 days.

In addition to GUNTHER, the others that have held the IC Title over 400 days are the Honky Tonk Man at 454 days, Pedro Morales at 424 days, “Macho Man” Randy Savage at 414 days.

For GUNTHER to set the record as the longest Intercontinental Champion, he has to hold the title until September 8th.

During an interview with Contralona, GUNTHER spoke about the importance of being the WWE Intercontinental Champion that has had a long title reign.

“It is very important obviously. I take great pride in doing it. It might be to the title legacy but also building my own legacy. It’s been a big responsibility so far but also a great experience, I am really enjoying it and I put all my effort into that, all the energy that I have. So far, like I said It’s been a great ride, let’s see how far we can go with it.”

As he continued, GUNTHER talked about raising the bar as the Intercontinental Title while adding that he cares about the sport of pro wrestling a lot.

“I want to be the guy that raises the bar of how serious our sports gets taken to a highest possible level, and I think that with Intercontinental Championship, I will be able to raise the bar again, as it was down for a while, but I’ve always done that with title runs outside WWE or even in NXT UK. I care about this sport a lot, I think I care about it more than most of the colleagues out there and that’s what I want to deliver in the ring.”

“I would say that I am almost a very selfless guy because all my energy goes into keeping the standards of this sport up and everybody benefits from them.”

This coming Monday on Raw, Drew McIntyre is expected to go face-to-face with GUNTHER, which should lead to two talented Europeans agreeing to a match at SummerSlam with the IC Title on the line.
