Gunther Claims AEW Star Is The Smartest Person In Wrestling

Gunther has heaped praise on an AEW veteran.

On June 10th, 2022, Gunther defeated Ricochet to become the Intercontinental Champion, and since then no one has been able to get the better of the Austrian star. Such has been his dominance, the former WALTER is now the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history.

This run has placed the star above the likes of The Rock, Jeff Jarrett, Ultimate Warrior, Honky Tonk Man, Randy Savage and Mr Perfect.

While Gunther might not have many nice things to say about Warrior, he’s much more impressed by AEW star Jarrett. Speaking to Steve Fall for WrestlingNews.Co, the dominant champion said Jarrett might be one of the smartest people in wrestling as even well into the veteran stage of his career he remains in a prominent position on TV.

“I think he’s one of the smartest guys in the sport because we have 2023 and he’s still in a very good position at another company and I think having a career that long and being in all kinds of positions this business has to offer. Yeah, congratulations to that career. You really figured it out.”

Gunther Less Fond Of Another Former Intercontinental Champion

As alluded to above, Gunther was much less complimentary about the Ultimate Warrior. Appearing on The Bump, the leader of IMPERIUM said the controversial Hall of Famer was nothing but a showman and not an athlete or professional wrestler.
