Goldberg “Pleasantly Surprised” By Reception Ahead Of Infamous Match
Goldberg has admitted he was surprised by the positive reception he received when first competing for WWE in Saudi Arabia.
The legendary former WWE Universal Champion made the long trip overseas to battle The Undertaker at WWE Super ShowDown on 7th June 2019 in a highly anticipated first time ever bout between two of the all-time greats of the squared circle.
Unfortunately the bout is remembered for all the wrong reasons after Goldberg suffered a concussion early on in the ill-fated contest that lasted just 9 minutes, with The Undertaker recently admitting that the pair had ‘stunk up the joint’ on the night.
Despite any negativity surrounding the performance, Goldberg has revealed his delight at the reception received during his first visit to Saudi Arabia despite initial reservations owing to his Jewish faith.
Speaking during a recent appearance on ‘The Ariel Helwani Show‘, the former WCW Champion noted that his experience was a reminder not to judge a country before visiting:
“As a Jewish person, I had reservations about going to Saudi because the first time we went was years ago and it was a different landscape than it is now. I was so pleasantly surprised. I was flabbergasted that they were so welcoming.
It was one of the best receptions that I’ve gotten anywhere. I’m so appreciative of that. It shows you can’t judge a book by its cover and you can’t have predisposed opinions about things without actually knowing what the hell you’re talking about.
Experiencing it yourself in real time is what it’s all about, it’s not about asking somebody about their experience.”
Goldberg Wants To Pass The Torch To Top WWE Superstar
Goldberg has made it clear in recent times that he is keen on one final bout before hanging up his boots and it appears that bout is now set to take place in 2025.
During the interview with Ariel Helwani, the former Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle revealed that Triple H had contacted him to agree to his request.
The WWE Hall Of Famer also has an opponent in mind, current WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther. The pair had a memorable showdown at Bad Blood in October 2024 and Goldberg feels the bout would serve as a passing of the torch to the next generation.
