Goldberg Believes Only One WWE Star Deserves To Use The Spear
Bill Goldberg feels that only one WWE superstar should be using the Spear regularly.
When Bill Goldberg became a household name in WCW in late 1997, he did so because he looked like a badass who did cool moves like the Spear and his finishing move, the Jackhammer.
The Spear made a lot of sense for Goldberg to use because he is a former football player. A wrestler performing a Spear is similar to an American football player tackling an opponent on the field.
Over the years, several wrestlers have used the Spear or a variation of it, like Rhyno using the Gore. Roman Reigns has used the Spear as a finishing move for over a decade, as he’s a former football player, like Goldberg.
Bron Breakker, who is also a former football player, has perhaps the most devastating Spear of them all. The Spears that Bron hit on IShowSpeed in the Royal Rumble and Carlito on Raw became viral moments because of how cool (and devastating) they looked.
While speaking to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, Goldberg revealed that he told Breakker that he thinks he’s the only guy who should be using the Spear in WWE.
“I had the conversation last night with Bron. I told him my feelings on it, that I think, 1,000%, he’s the only human being in WWE that should be doing that. I know I’ll catch a lot of hell for that, but I don’t care. That’s the truth. It is what it is.”
Those words by Goldberg could be considered a shot at Roman Reigns, who is the man who beat Bill at Elimination Chamber 2022.
Goldberg Thinks He Knows Why WWE Superstars Started Using The Spear
At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12th, Bill Goldberg will have his retirement match against the World Heavyweight Champion, Gunther, with the title on the line. The 58-year-old WWE Hall of Famer hasn’t wrestled in over three years, but he’s as ready as he can be.
Regarding the Spear, Goldberg also credited the late, great “Dr. Death” Steve Williams for doing the move before him. As for wrestlers doing it after him, Goldberg thinks he knows why that has happened.
“Let’s talk about the reason why everyone started doing the spear in the WWE. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure it out. Let’s be perfectly honest, they did it to make mine look bad or downplay it.”
