Huge Gimmick Match Being Planned For Royal Rumble 2023
The card for WWE Royal Rumble is already starting to take shape and, for 2023, the annual event is set to feature a huge gimmick match for the first time.
The annual Royal Rumble is always one of the most anticipated Premium Live Events on the wrestling calendar and this year is no exception.
As normal, the show will feature both Men’s and Women’s 30-Person Royal Rumble matches. The winners of these over-the-top-rope battle royals will determine which stars will go on to compete in the Raw or SmackDown Women’s Championship – currently held by Bianca Belair and Ronda Rousey – and Roman Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
As well as these bouts, it has been rumoured that Reigns will defend his title against Kevin Owens on the show while Bray Wyatt could potentially have his first bout since returning in a Pitch Black match.
Now, another huge bout is reportedly being added to the show as WrestlingNews.co say they have been told Edge will take on Finn Balor inside Hell In A Cell. This would be the latest chapter in a rivalry that has been going on since Balor took control of The Judgment Day faction from The Rated-R Superstar back in June.
The last time the pair met at Extreme Rules in October, Finn Balor defeated Edge in an ‘I Quit’ Match when the WWE Hall of Famer quit in an attempt to save his wife, Beth Phoenix, who Rhea Ripley was threatening with a Con-Chair-To. Despite Edge surrendering, Ripley went ahead with the attack anyway. The couple hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since the loss.
