The Garcia Twins Explain Why They Are No Longer ‘The Bellas’
The Bellas are no more; now Brie and Nikki Bella will be using their birth names to promote themselves.
Brie and Nikki Bella were two of the most prominent women in WWE over the past decade. From 2009 all the way to 2020, the two of them were pushed as two of the company’s top stars, especially in non-wrestling-related ventures like the Total Divas reality show and its spinoff Total Bellas.
But both of them appear to have moved on to other projects. And to fit with that change, they have stopped using the names given to them by WWE.
On an appearance on Live with Kenny and Mark, Nikki explained that the decision to revert back to their old names was an homage to their roots.
“So that’s our real names. You know, when we were wrestlers, the Bella Twins, that was our gimmick name,” said Garcia. “So now that we’re no longer wrestlers, we were retired, we’re like ‘Let’s go back to our roots.’
[We’re] Mexican and Italian. We’re entering this new chapter, about to be 40 in November. So we thought you know entering this next decade of our lives, let’s go back to our roots as entrepreneurs and mothers.”
What did The Bellas accomplish in WWE?
Both Brie and Nikki Bella won championship gold at various points in their careers. They have three reigns as Divas Champion between them, with Brie having one and Nikki having two. Additionally, Nikki’s second reign is the longest in that title’s history, at 301 days.
Both of them also gained some degree of fame for their appearance on Total Divas, in which they discussed their careers and their relationships, with Brie being in a relationship with Bryan Danielson and Nikki – at the time – being with John Cena.
Both of them were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as a duo as part of the Class of 2020.
