Former WWE Tag Team Champions To Battle On Raw

Cody Rhodes has the chance to finish his story at WrestleMania but before then he has to settle a score with a former tag team partner in WWE.

Long before Cody Rhodes was The American Nightmare he was WWE’s most dashing superstar and he let the world know it. In 2010 he happened to find a kindred spirit in the young Drew McIntyre and the pair went on to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. The title reign did not last long and as such is probably the most forgettable of either man’s career.

A lot has changed in 14 years, both men have left WWE to return reinvigorated and on a firmer path to success. McIntyre has captured the WWE Championship twice since his comeback while Rhodes famously is yet to achieve that feat.

Cody Rhodes will clash with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 for the chance to finish his story and win that gold but McIntyre’s future is less certain. Drew McIntyre’s WWE contract ends shortly after WrestleMania and there has been no known movement towards a new deal for the Scottish star. If he is nearing the end of his time in the company, it seems McIntyre is intent on wreaking as much havoc as possible before then.

Cody Rhodes To Face Drew McIntyre On WWE Raw

Drew McIntyre will be part of the Elimination Chamber match with a shot at Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania on the line. On Raw in Lexington, McIntyre took credit for pushing Rhodes to a match with Reigns at WrestleMania as he set his sights on title gold himself.

The match between Rhodes and McIntyre was made official on the show which will be the first time the two men have met one-on-one in a televised WWE bout.

Raw’s main event saw Sami Zayn lose to Shinsuke Nakamura thanks to a distraction from McIntyre. After the match, McIntyre and Nakamura attacked Zayn leading to Rhodes making the save and laying out his next opponent with the Cody Cutter.
