A former WWE star has been visiting AEW.

WWE released Mustafa Ali on September 21st, 2023 to the surprise of fans and media figures around the world. Not only had the star seen his stock rising within the company in the weeks prior to his release, but he was also scheduled to face Dominik Mysterio for the North American Title just nine days later.

To add to the confusion, it was reported after Mustafa Ali’s release that he was set to win the championship from Mysterio.

There were also claims Ali’s release led to significant frustration backstage, with many citing a lack of communication between the main roster and NXT.

Mustafa Ali To AEW?

Following his WWE exit, Ali relaunched his career on the independent scene while also making his debut with NJPW. However, Ali has made the majority of his post-WWE appearances with TNA Wrestling, where he currently holds the X-Division Championship.

Meanwhile, it’s now been reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider that Ali was backstage for the July 3rd episode of AEW Dynamite in Chicago. The report notes that Ali was visiting, but little information is available beyond that.

Despite making regular appearances with TNA, Ali is working on a per-appearance deal and isn’t signed to a permanent contract.

Speaking ahead of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, Tony Khan said he would continue to be active in free agency.
