Former AEW Champion Provides Concerning Health Update
This AEW star underwent three knee surgeries in just one year.
The Machine Brian Cage, who is currently signed to AEW, is one of the most intimidating wrestlers on their roster. His impressive physique and cruiserweight agility make him a monstrous threat in the ring and a major attraction.
Unfortunately for The Machine, this year has been riddled with injuries. The former FTW Champion has undergone three knee surgeries and is recovering from the latest one, undergoing rigorous rehabilitation.
After the procedure in November, he had hinted earlier at a return date to AEW programming, which would have happened around their Full Gear event. However, it was not to be, as Cage faced another setback during his recovery process, which has effectively ruled him out of in-ring action for the foreseeable future.
AEW’s Brian Cage Shares Massive Injury Update
In an interview with Nick Teodoro, Cage revealed that things have not gone according to plan and that he now has a new kind of pain. He explained that it’s some of the more gruelling rehabilitation he has ever done for an injury, and it’s some of the most painful he’s ever had.
“We’ve actually had a bit of a hiccup — mostly because we’ve been doing so much. I was doing these single-leg squat deals, and we’re guessing that’s what aggravated it.”
“I’m not really sure if it’s a bursitis-type situation, or if there’s some kind of irritation from the implant in my knee — the one on my femur — rubbing against it. I don’t know exactly what it is, but it kind of sucks, because it’s a different type of pain now — and it’s been hindering some of the continued progress we could be making.”
“It’s been some of the most painful rehab I’ve ever done. I told my wife — besides a few top-tier injuries I’ve had — this is right up there in terms of pain level, especially when it comes to bending my knee and getting my range of motion back.”
Cage went on to explain that although he has an idea of when he could return in mind, he would like to keep it under wraps for now.
“I also told them I didn’t want to know when I was coming back. So I don’t have a perfect, exact date. I know when I think I’ll come back. I know when I want to come back. But I’m going to keep that under wraps — that way nobody has any idea, and I’ll come back when I come back.”
Cage has stated that he has six years left on his AEW contract.
