Ex-WWE Stars Far Apart On Money In AEW Talks
Two former WWE stars might be on their way to AEW just yet.
Back in October 2023, the Grizzled Young Vets team of James Drake and Zack Gibson finally left WWE after their contracts with the company expired.
Since then, the pair have returned to the independent scene as well as appearing in TNA, and very briefly for AEW. Gibson and Drake teamed on the 27th of April edition of Collision to take on The Acclaimed but it was the AEW regulars who grabbed the win.
Since then it’s been reported that there have been talks between the former WWE men and Tony Khan, but a deal is yet to be made.
Speaking during a Fightful Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp noted that the two sides are some way apart on money.
“Grizzled Young Vets are the big ones. I know they were far apart on money.”
Several AEW Stars Could Leave For WWE
While AEW is reportedly looking to land Ricochet and Bobby Lashley following their departure from WWE, it seems three All Elite stars could be going in the opposite direction.
In recent weeks it’s been reported that Ricky Starks is expected to join WWE when his current contract expires. Starks hasn’t wrestled on AEW television since March.
Aside from the speculation around Starks, it’s been reported that the Lucha Brothers have already received an offer from WWE after making it clear they want to leave AEW.
However, the most recent report on the situation claimed that Tony Khan could heavily delay the move by adding time to Rey Fenix’s contract for time off due to injuries. This could keep the star with the company for another year.
