Ex-WWE Star Was Punished For Befriending Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon WWE

Shane McMahon was once seen as the successor to Vince McMahon’s wrestling empire, WWE.

That is not how things turned out, as Vince ultimately handed over the keys to his kingdom to Triple H, who currently serves as its Chief Content Officer.

Shane’s popularity among the fans skyrocketed after he moved away from commentary and joined his father, becoming a key component of The Corporation.

Over the years, he also competed in several matches, and as seen in the ‘Mr. McMahon‘ Netfilx documentary, he self-admittedly performed all the dangerous stunts to impress his father.

Another reputable name in WWE at the time was Raven. The former ECW and WCW great had rejoined the Stamford promotion in 2000.

Raven and Shane were good friends during the former’s earlier stint, and they seemed to have rekindled their bond after his return, even becoming ‘drinking buddies.’

At the same time, Raven also served as an associate producer for RAW.

While describing Shane-O Mac as humble but confident that he would inherit the company one day, Raven was also aware of Vince’s problem with their frequent night-outs, ultimately resulting in Raven’s departure.

Raven Recalls WWE Punishing Him For Friendship With Shane McMahon

While speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the 61-year-old Raven recalled his friendship with Shane McMahon, and how it might have prevented Vince McMahon from pushing him in storylines.

I had Vince’s kid, Shane, out, until the wee hours of the night drinking. I left a bad impression. Yeah, we were really good friends. You know, it’s funny. The boys thought ‘oh you’re just kissing the boss’ son’s ass going out with him every night.’ I thought, ‘no, I’m burying myself, because no dad wants their son out until 4 in the morning with a reprobate like me.
