Ex-WWE Star Unfit For Murder Trial
A former WWE wrestler has been deemed unfit for a murder trial.
Billy Jack Haynes was a WWE superstar from 1986 to 1988 when Hulk Hogan dominated the main event scene. Billy’s biggest match was his match with Hercules at WrestleMania 3 in 1987.
After his WWE days were over, Haynes spent some time working in New Japan. He also had a brief WCW run as Black Blood in 1991. He retired as a wrestler in 1995.
Haynes was back in the news again when he was officially charged with his wife’s murder in February 2024. The incident happened on the morning of February 8th, with the shooting believed to have occurred at 9:52 am.
It was reported that 85-year-old Janette Becraft was the victim, and her husband, Billy Jack Haynes, was the suspect. KOIN in Portland, Oregon, reported that Haynes was released from hospital on the 28th of February; he was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center in Portland, where he was charged with murder in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon.
Former WWE Wrestler Billy Jack Haynes Isn’t Fit To Stand Trial
In an update on this awful situation, ABC’s KATU 2 reported that Haynes was in court for a status check in front of Judge Angela Lucero. Lucero determined that Haynes is not mentally fit to help with his own defense. He will be further evaluated and treated at the Oregon State Hospital.
There will be a new hearing on May 20th to check on Haynes for a possible trial. If the judge and other evaluators clear him, he will be tried in December 2025.
Due to the health issues he is experiencing, it was also reported that Haynes could be staying at the Oregon State Hospital for anywhere from one to three years, so there might not be a trial any time soon.
