Ex-WWE Star Still Feels Injuries From Decades Earlier
Former WWE Superstar Maven Huffman has revealed that he remains in pain years after retiring from the ring.
The 47 year-old former school teacher rose to prominence during the inaugural series of WWE Tough Enough, a reality TV show that aired on MTV during 2001.
Huffman was named as the male winner of the show and went on the have spend four years with the company before being released in July 2005. He retired from full-time in-ring competition two years later, competing in just a handful of bouts since.
Despite a relatively short in-ring career, Maven did collect his fair share of injuries and recently highlighted a knee injury picked up as he attempted to save fellow Tough Enough winner Nidia after she was targeted following a bout between Tyson Tomko and Val Venis on a 2004 episode of Heat.
After sprinting to the ring, the Tennessee-born star struck his knee on the apron as he slid into the squared circle, causing agony that drew him to tears backstage after the segment.
Speaking recently on his YouTube channel, the former WWE Hardcore Champion revealed that he still struggles with the knee injury to this day:
“The only saving grace I had was knowing once I got backstage, my night was over, but that would not be the end for that painful experience.
To this day, I still cannot walk up steps and put full pressure on that knee, and it gives out on me from time to time. I don’t know exactly what injury I did to it that night. It didn’t take me off the road.
In fact, I was out wrestling the next match, but oh, that pain. I can still remember standing in that ring, thousands of people cheering for me, and not one of them knowing I was in the worst pain of my life.”
Ex-WWE Star Maven Recalls Drinking With The Undertaker
Arguably Maven’s most famous contribution whilst under contract with WWE is an encounter with The Undertaker during the 2002 Royal Rumble match.
The rookie Superstar eliminated a dominant ‘Big Evil’ with a dropkick from behind during the famous 30-man bout, leading to a prolonged attacked throughout the arena by the WWE Hall Of Famer.
The savage beating left Maven bloodied and beaten. It was the first time that the new Superstar had bled during a match and he recently recalled drinking with The Undertaker ahead of the contest in order to maximise it’s impact.
