Ex-WWE Star Claims Vince McMahon Wrote Storyline To “P*ss Off White People”
Several former WWE stars still don’t understand one Vince McMahon decision.
In late 1996, Faarooq began to move away from his gladiator character, and the first version of the Nation of Domination was born.
By mid-1997, the group, which included D’Lo Brown, fired Clarence Mason, Crush, Savio Vega, and replaced them with Ahmed Johnson and Kama Mustafa, who later became the Godfather. However, Johnson wasn’t long for the group after suffering an injury, and his place was taken by a young Rocky Maivia.
During this period, the group leaned into the Black Power movement and became more politically charged than ever.
After Mark Henry joined the faction in early 1998, Owen Hart signed up that April, becoming the group’s only white member. A decision that still remains a mystery 27 years later.
On the latest episode of his Poddin’ Ain’t Easy podcast, The Godfather looked back on the rise of the group and its origins.
“At first, when they started that, Vince didn’t want it to be too powerful, and he didn’t want it to be as powerful as it got. He didn’t want to offend too many people. So at first the Nation involved a Puerto Rican [Savio Vega], a white guy, a Hawaiian [Crush], a black guy [Faarooq], some rappers [PG-13].”
Godfather added that everyone is still struggling to understand why Vince McMahon decided to add Owen Hart.
“Even back then, I still don’t understand why Owen Hart was in the nation. Nobody, I talked to D’Lo, I talked to everybody, nobody has no idea.”
He said that the group’s main theory came from D’Lo Brown.
“I think Vince did it just to piss off white people.”
Godather explained that although no one knew why he was included, there was never an issue with Hart being in the faction as he was beloved backstage.
“You know what? We all liked Owen so much… that nobody gave a [damn] because it was Owen,” he stated. “The great thing about it is none of us gave a [damn]. We all loved Owen… We were happy to have him.”
Ronda Rousey Blasts Vince McMahon
During a new interview looking back on her time with WWE, Ronda Rousey called Vince McMahon a “pervert” as she vented her frustration. Rousey made the comment while recalling being yelled at by Nia Jax backstage for looking too strong in a planned moment with Becky Lynch.
Rousey responded to Jax by saying that she was just doing what she was told by McMahon.
Following her exit in August 2023, it was reported that Ronda Rousey “despised” Vince McMahon by the time she left the company, later branding him a “f*cking sicko” in an interview.
