Ex-WWE Champion Was Shocked By His Firing After Massive Undertaker Match

The Undertaker WWE Hall of Fame

A veteran former WWE superstar was surprised when he was fired after working with The Undertaker.

The Undertaker’s final WWE match didn’t take place in a ring. Instead, the Deadman’s last official WWE bout was the Boneyard Match at WrestleMania 36, when he faced AJ Styles.

That was the most unique WrestleMania ever because there were no fans due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so WWE had to improvise. For the Boneyard Match, it took place out in a field, and the two legends used the facilities to put on an entertaining cinematic match.

Even though AJ Styles had some help from The Club’s Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, he wasn’t able to win. The Undertaker got the win after using a tractor to dump dirt on Styles. Taker drove away on a motorcycle to end it.

While speaking to PWMania, Luke Gallows explained how he was involved in Taker’s last match. Anderson took the last Tombstone that Taker delivered as an active wrestler, and then, less than two weeks later, WWE fired Anderson & Gallows as part of the post-WrestleMania cuts.

“It really was a whirlwind. We came back in 2019, reunited as the OC, and went into WrestleMania for The Undertaker’s last match. I got thrown to my death, Carl took the final Tombstone ever—and then, just 11 days later, we were unceremoniously fired.”

The Undertaker Knows He Can’t Wrestle Again

After retiring officially in 2020 following a 30-year run as The Undertaker, Mark Calaway is staying busy by being a coach on the WWE LFG show, doing his podcast, going on tours, and helping out backstage at WWE-run events like the recent AAA show.

As for wrestling again, The Undertaker does still love the business, but he knows he can’t do it anymore in the ring.

“No. I don’t think…look, the only way that I could put the hat and the coat back on is I’d have to get back in the ring. And I can’t do that because that also jeopardizes the legacy. As much as I have here [points to head] and as much as I have here [points to heart], I know that there’s not enough left in the tank to do that.”

The Undertaker turned 60 years old earlier this year, so the chance of him ever wrestling again seems very unlikely.
