Ex-WWE Star Admits Regret Over Venting About The Company Online
A former WWE superstar admits he handled his release poorly.
After seven years as a WWE superstar, Ridge Holland was informed by the company that his contract would not be renewed.
What made matters worse is that Holland suffered a serious foot injury that will keep him out for several months. Holland had surgery on his foot because of the injury. The injury occurred in a TNA match, as they have a working agreement with WWE.
Following WWE’s decision to let him go, Holland went public with his unhappiness, claiming he’s now struggling to make his mortgage payments. Holland is a married father of three.
In response to Holland’s online complaint about his release, WWE cut his contract early rather than waiting until it expired.
Holland, whose real name is Luke Menzies, posted a YouTube video to address his WWE departure, making it clear he enjoyed his time there.
“I just want to firstly say that my time with WWE was majority on a positive note, I enjoyed it. I got to wrestle at WrestleMania, I got to be around some great people and travel the world. It was a hugely positive influence on my life, and I am grateful for it.
“I know the last 12 months has been rough, and the negative always overshadows the positive, and I just want to reiterate that my time in WWE was great and that I am grateful for it and the things that I achieved.
“Coming from a small town in Yorkshire playing professional Rugby, it’s something that no-one really does. Everyone stays in the little town, in the little bubble, and I’m proud I took the risk to break out and take my life across the world without any real plan.
“I just wanna make sure everyone knows I’m super grateful for the opportunities.” (H/T Wrestletalk)
Ridge Holland Admits Complaining About WWE Online Was A Mistake
As he continued speaking on his YouTube channel, Menzies expressed regret about the social media post he made and said he needed to vent.
“I’m grateful for the good, the bad, and the ugly. And what I do want to hold my hands up for is that last tweet that forced the situation to get worse. That was pure frustration, and I’m mad at myself for doing that because it’s kind of out of character for me.
I don’t react that way. But I think knowing that my career with WWE was coming to an end, and I never really got to show my true potential—whether that’s my fault or situational regarding injuries or things that happened, whatever—I felt kind of a little bit wronged. I don’t know who by, despite the whole situation.
So I hold my hands up, and if I had the time again, I wouldn’t have posted that tweet. But I needed an outlet. I needed to vent.”
As he continued, Menzies spoke about how his foot injury happened and when he was told that his contract wouldn’t be renewed.
“Unfortunately the day after I had that match with Santana, what happened was I was going for a Pop Up Powerbomb on Moose, he jumped so high, I thought I was gonna lose him so I stepped forward, he came down, I stepped back, the foot twisted, and that was the injury.
“So I had surgery. I think I recovered for a week and got a complementary stay at one of the resorts in Orlando for the family, because my mum had flown over to help with the kids because I was incapacitated.
“Then we got there, the first day, that’s when I got a call that said they weren’t gonna renew my contract. Okay well I’m injured and don’t know how I’m gonna make a living, and I’ve seen comments about money management, I’m not going to air my financial details on here, nobody knows. Everyone has their own opinions, but opinions are like arseholes; everyone’s got one and most of them stink, so I don’t want to get into that.” (H/T Wrestletalk)
A GoFundMe fundraiser was set up to help Menzies/Holland and his family following his WWE departure, as having surgery and recovering is an expensive process. Some WWE superstars like Chelsea Green and Omos have already donated, along with the former Jinder Mahal, TNA’s Nick Jackson and Kyle Fletcher, among others.
